19 New TV Channels and 8 New Radio Channels Vacant Slot added on DD Freedish Platform.

Current Status : TP Active


DD Freedish India's free DTH service (DD Direct Plus) on Insat 4B at 93.5° East added a New transponder to its own platform. Now channels would be extended from 59 to 78 TV Channels.

Now DD Freedish available with 1 HD channel and 77 SD Channels. Although these channels are in testing mode because signals are not stable. 8 New Radio Channels also added. Very soon DD Freedish going to lauch new subscribed channels by CAS, these channels would be available in MPEG-4 Quality. This year Prasar Bharati will add 40 new CAS TV channels.

DD Freedish going to change its frequencies on 9th January Midnight. So on morning 10th January you have to rescan or re-tune your set-top box to get all channels. After this migration you will get 64 TV Channels and 24 Radio channels. It means you will get 5 extra TV channels and 2 extra radio channels. You can check its all frequency details:

Answer: Yes, you have to retune or re-scan your set-top box because after DTH platform migration, down linking information would be change. You can scan your set-top box by Blind Scan.

Question: Should I change my Set-top Box with any new one?
Answer: No, You no need to change your set-top box; you just need to blind scan only. At this time DD Freedish testing MPEG-4 channels, at this time there is no live channel on MPEG-4 slot. So you can use same box.

Question: My Set-top box is not supporting Blind Scan, What should I do ?
Answer: If your current set-top box is not supporting Blind scan system then you can fill this technical information by provided frequencies details above.

New MPEG-4 TP 11490/V/30000 added on DD Freedish

Now Prasar Bharati working to expand channels on DD Freedish. Because DD Freedish DTH added new MPEG-4 transponder to its platform. Now DD Freedish have two transponders in MPEG4 format and four transponders in MPEG-2 format. DD Freedish converted old TP frequency 11490/V/27500 (mpeg-2) to 11490/V/30000(mpeg-4).

By addition of this new TP frequency, now DD Freedish has extra 24 new TV channels and 8 New radio channels on its platform. But now these channels in Testing mode showing colour bars. Very soon channels would be added by e-auction.

Sony PAL, Manoranjan Music and Dillagi TV channel added on DD Freedish. Although “Dillagi TV “channel has not launched yet and showing color bars. Only Test card added on DTH platform.


Sony PAL is Premium Hindi general entertainment which is all hits shows of SONY TV and SAB TV. Although this is also brand new channel is pay channels but now it is decided to launch on DD Freedish with new look.

NEW DELHI: The All India Radio had to stop the operation of Gyan Vani FM channels due to discontinuation of payments by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), which has now paid a major part of the outstanding dues, the government said today.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said that AIR was "constrained" to stop the operation of Gyan Vani FM channels from October 1, 2014, due to discontinuation of payments from April 1, 2013 onwards by IGNOU, accumulating outstanding payment of Rs 21.64 crores.

DD Podhigai is the Tamil language channel launched in 1993. Later "DD-5" has taken a new identity in Tamil by being renamed as DD Podhigai on 15 January 2000 which became 24-hour Doordarshan Tamil channel. Tamil films shown on DD Podhigai attract a large number of viewers within as well as outside Tamil Nadu.  Serials, films, infotainment programmes, news and current affairs are the prominent programme genres.  DD – Podhigai is the only regional language satellite channel, which has eight hours of terrestrial transmission.  In the terrestrial mode, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., DD Podhigai reaches 94% population of Tamil Nadu.  The channel originates its programmes in Chennai.

DD Saptagiri is the Telugu language satellite channel supported by Doordarshan studios in Hyderabad and Vijaywada.  Launched in 1993 DD Saptagiri has entertainment serials, infotainment programmes, news & current affairs, social programmes and film programmes as its major content. In terrestrial mode, DD Saptagiri is available to 90% of the population of Andhra Pradesh. DD Vijayawada also available on through DTH and cable networks.

DD Bangla Channel Available on DD Free Dish Platform

DD Bangla is the Bengali language satellite channel supported by Doordarshan studios in Kolkata, Shantiniketan and Jalpaiguri.  Launched in 2001 DD Bangla has entertainment serials, infotainment programmes, news & current affairs, social programmes and film programmes as its major content. In terrestrial mode, DD Bangla is available to 97.1 % of the population of West Bengal.

Doordarshan Kolkata is equipped with the most modern recording and transmission facilities including 3 digital studios, 1 CB studio and 1 Sync studio. The studios are mainly used for recording, live transmission, news broadcast and ENG recording. The Sync Studio is utilized for sound dubbing.

Other than Bengali, Doordarshan Kolkata also telecasts programmes in Hindi, Urdu, Nepali and Santhali. This is the only Bengali channel to do so.
